November Landscaping Tips

November

November means temperatures are starting to cool down. If there hasn’t been a freeze yet, there will be one soon. Follow these tips to keep your yard beautiful through the cold months.

During November, continue planting winter vegetables such as beets, broccoli, and spinach. Herbs such as parsley, thyme, sage, and cilantro are best grown during this time of year as well. The best cool season flowers to plant are pansies, snapdragons, petunias, and poppies.

Ornamental trees and shrubs should be planted during this time of year and dormant oil sprays should be applied. Make sure that the temperature is going to be above freezing (32 degreees) for at least 24 hours after application.

Heavy pruning should be avoided because any new growth could be damaged during the cold months.

Make sure you are watering plants, trees, shrubs, and lawn if the weather is dry. Remove leaves from lawn to avoid promotion of disease that can result in having to lay new sod.
